| i'm in greenpoint, brooklyn at the moment, waiting for some clothes to dry so that i can put them into my bag for tomorrow. aaron and i are waking up at the crack of dawn to drive to columbus, ohio in his yellow jeep. i've called dibs on the open road, since he's been driving for longer than i have, it's probably best if i do the more straightforward stuff. anyway, it's not my car. he lives in this wonderful (but central air conditioning-less) loft that was converted from a factory of some sort. very high ceilings, and guitars everywhere. weird serialist piano music is playing in the hallway bathroom on an old radio. wnyc, i believe.
this is the kind of life that i want to lead. making records and touring, and honestly that's about it. the problem is, i won't make much money doing that at first, probably not enough to pay for basic living expenses. not unless some things change and i start getting more well-known. well, that's what touring's for. this seems like a kind of solitary life, but it still appeals to me (or maybe that's why it does). paying my dues is pretty fun so far. i guess i won't be saying that during the 9 hour drive tomorrow. oh well! hope you are all well. | | |

| so the term is almost over. i feel good about it. i wrote a fairly lengthy (for me) piece for piano, bass clarinet, violin, and cello, and i made a weather-triggered music installment that went over pretty well. soon i'll be in the suburbs of western washington, hopefully finding an okay job and spending time recording on weekends. life has become sort of like a log flume. strange times. i hope going on tour this august actually works out. and i hope to get to spend at least a week in the state of my upbringing. | | |
